Aidan Stark-Chessa
Portland, Maine — a life, mid-record

This is the place I keep track of my own life.

Photographs, footage, and writing from wherever I've happened to be pointed — kept here less like a portfolio, more like a journal I've left open. Dates and places are going in as I dig them up, so some of this is still a little unlabeled. Start wherever you like.

Through My Eyes

The closest thing I have to a diary. Friends, ordinary days, in-between moments — kept here roughly in the order I took them, not sorted by trip or theme, because that's not really how I experience my own life either. Dates and places are informal on purpose — however I actually remembered them.

Action Sports

Pursuing the flow state through motion has been a backbone of my life for as long as I can remember — mostly through skiing, surfing, biking, and climbing. Different in character from Through My Eyes: if that chapter is everyday life, this is the highlight reel.

"To fly down a mountain drawing lines straight out of your imagination, to leave your body as it knows what to do — this is about as close to transcendence as I can get. This is freedom."

Video

Skiing is where I chase the flow state hardest. This is a few minutes from a recent trip out west, plus raw clips and a few other things I've put out into the world — more will land here as I make them.

Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix.

Raw footage, no editing — just clips as I shoot them.

Alta backflip.

POV, dropping in.

A set rolling in.

A few other things I've put out into the world.

Aidan "Blues" Stark-Chessa For Donovan 2026 — Orange Whip, Bates Ultimate

Being put forward for the Donovan Award this year meant a lot — it's a nomination that's as much about how you play with your team as how you play the game. Honored to be considered alongside so many players I respect, and grateful to Orange Whip for putting this together.

People

It is my wholehearted belief that kindness — compassion and love — is the only force strong enough to save humanity, and it is of the utmost importance to cultivate that virtue in ourselves and in those around us.

Scapes

I can look at them for hours. Scapes are my favorite thing to artistically interact with, whether through drawing, painting, or — in this case — photography.

About

Building a company, taking photographs, writing when something won't leave me alone. I don't have a singular focus, and I don't really want one.

As a kid I'd lock myself away for hours building entire zoos and cities out of Playmobil, painstakingly, and fly into a panic if anyone touched what I'd made. That impulse never really left — I just traded plastic animals for a company, a camera, and a lot of unfinished essays. I've always been drawn to writing, even without much natural talent for it, mostly because I've always been drawn to stories.

I graduated from Bates College with a degree in Philosophy, a concentration in Religious Studies, and a minor in Rhetoric. During my time there I captained Bates Ultimate's Orange Whip, and I'm endlessly interested in craft, food systems, and collaborative creative spaces.

Also true of me

Restaurants taught me as much as school did.

Digital storytelling

Three years building campaigns and content for Get Maine Lobster — a national seafood brand — across TikTok, Instagram, and X, including work that reached far past where I expected it to.

Hospitality

I've spent years behind the bar and on the floor at Street & Company, a high-volume fine dining seafood restaurant in Portland — the kind of place that taught me more about pressure, craft, and teamwork than any classroom.

Community

I served on the board of SafeBAE, a youth-led sexual violence prevention organization, and co-created "The Youth Take" podcast on masculinity and consent through Maine Boys to Men.

"I try very hard to never hate, and always forgive. If you take one thing from this site, let it be that we should talk to everyone, and love unconditionally."

Some of it is just me thinking out loud, trying to make sense of the world.
